Primrose Hospice Lights of Love

Bereavement and grief can affect us all, especially at Christmas. That’s why every year the Primrose Hospice Lights of Love helps you honour, remember and celebrate the lives of your loved ones.

Rachel Watts’ Lights of Love journey began after her sister Lizzie died from stomach cancer in 2017 on New Year’s Day. “Christmas was Lizzie’s favourite time of the year; she absolutely loved it. We’d eat Christmas chocolates in November and our tree would always be up on December 1st. We’re lucky to have lots of lovely festive memories of Lizzie, so it’s important to keep those Christmas traditions going. Primrose Hospice’s Lights of Love has become one of those traditions; it’s like holding onto her in our minds.”

Whether your special person received care from the hospice or not, young or old, nearby or far away, Primrose Hospice invites anyone wishing to honour the memory of someone who has sadly died, to dedicate a light to them. Each light represents a life loved and will remain lit throughout the festive period around our trees in Bromsgrove and Redditch.

You will receive a Lights of Love card, personalised with your loved ones’ names and each tribute will appear on a digital tribute page on our website, where messages and photographs can be added.

You can also attend the Lights of Love Light Switch On at 6pm on 23rd November at our tree in Bromsgrove or the Lights of Love Celebration at 3pm on Saturday 7th December at the Hospice B60 3BW, where you can find solace in the collective support of those around you.

The poignant remembrance event includes live music with a performance by the Primrose Choir, as well as readings from staff and from families that we have supported. A moment of reflection will be followed by the Light Switch On and each guest receives a bauble to personalise. There will be plenty of time during the event to hang your bauble on the Christmas tree. Everyone is welcome to attend, including anyone whose family may not have been cared for by the Hospice. Guests will be invited to join hospice staff and volunteers for a hot drink and mince pie after the event. Booking is not required. Please note that part of this event is held outside.
