More than a shop
Charity shops are no regular high street shopping experience – they are so much more – and we think the public needs to know! They offer a treasure trove of items and play a crucial role in supporting charities up and down the country.
Primrose Hospice & Family Support Centre, has five wonderful shops which sell a diverse range of items including furniture, women’s and men’s clothing, toys, books, and homeware.
Primrose Hospice’s retail manager, Ian McRoy, shared his enthusiasm about the success of these shops: “The last year of trading in our unique Primrose shops has been the most successful year ever for Primrose, raising more money than ever before to support patients and families. There is lots to be proud of and I’m immensely grateful to our volunteers and staff who work tirelessly to ensure our shops are popular and successful. And of course thanks go to our customers and donors, who have amazed us this year with their generosity and kindness, supporting us, helping reduce waste, and funding hours of Primrose support for our community.”
The impact of charity shops extends far beyond the financial support they provide. The Primrose shops are community hubs where our community comes together, not just to shop, but to donate, volunteer, and connect with others. Volunteers and staff work tirelessly to ensure that each shop is welcoming and well-stocked, creating a shopping experience that is both enjoyable and meaningful.
One of the standout features of charity shops is their role in promoting sustainability. By offering pre-loved items for sale, these shops help to reduce waste and encourage a more sustainable approach to shopping. Customers can find unique and high-quality items at affordable prices, all while knowing that their purchases are making a positive impact. Across Primrose Hospice’s shops, customers spend an average of £7.65 every time they shop, and our shops process around 80,000 sales every year.
The variety of items available in charity shops is another aspect that sets them apart from regular high street stores. From vintage furniture to fashionable clothing, children’s toys to rare books, there is something for everyone. Each item has been donated with care, and every purchase helps to support the vital services provided by Primrose Hospice.
