Dawn – Head of Clinical Services | What makes you smile at work?
It’s the simple, genuine moments with shared laughter with patients and colleagues, even on the hardest of days. Being part of making someone feel comfortable, valued, and not alone is what really makes it special.

Mel – Clinical Nurse Specialist | What’s something surprising to learn about care at Primrose Hospice?
We are a bed-free day hospice that focuses on helping patients live well, rather than being a place where people go to die.

Alison – Lead Nurse | What is rewarding about your work?
We build very meaningful relationships with patients and their families. I think making a visible difference to someone’s quality of life, focussing on helping people live well rather than focusing on illness is so rewarding.

Liz – Staff Nurse | What inspired you to work in hospice care?
I was inspired to work in hospice care because I believe people living with a life-limiting illness should be supported to live as well as possible for as long as possible. Primrose Hospice is about so much more than end-of-life care; it is about the person as a whole. Promoting holistic wellbeing and helping to improve someone’s quality of life is at the heart of what we do, and that is something I feel very passionate about.

Lil – Clinical Support Assistant | How do you make a difference?
I think I make a difference by offering patients and families extra support and treating patients as individuals. We help by listening and letting them process their fears and anxieties. We provide families with respite to have some time for themselves and guidance they might need.

Shaniece – Physiotherapist | What difference can physiotherapy make in hospice care?
Physiotherapy can make a real difference in hospice care by helping patients stay as comfortable, independent, and active as possible. It can help manage symptoms such as pain, stiffness, and breathlessness, while also supporting safe movement and preventing falls additionally helping people to live with a diverse range of health conditions from Parkinsons to COPD and much more.
Primrose hospice is also unique as we focus on recovery, physiotherapy in the hospice strives to help people do what matters most to them, whether that’s getting out of bed, sitting in a favourite chair, spending time with family, or simply feeling more comfortable. Physiotherapists can also support carers by showing them safe ways to help with movement and positioning.
Ultimately, the focus is on improving quality of life, comfort, dignity and independence for as long as possible.

Rachel – Clinical Services Administrator | What skills are most important in your role?

Helen – Data Compliance Officer | Why are you passionate about your role?
The data I work with is never just data; it represents people, experiences, and care. Every figure has meaning, and it is collected and used to make a difference, helping us improve the care we provide to our patients and families. Being part of that care (even as one small cog in a much bigger machine), is what keeps me passionate about my work and proud to support the incredible support our teams deliver every day.
