Meet Nicholas…

Celebrate our Primrose volunteers!

This Volunteers’ Week, we proudly celebrate the heart of Primrose Hospice – our incredible team of 375 volunteers. Across our hospice and charity shops, these dedicated individuals give their time, energy, and compassion all year round.

Volunteers’ Week is a national celebration of the power and impact of volunteering, recognising the millions of people who make a difference in their communities.

We spoke to Nicholas who has been volunteering at Primrose Hospice & Family Support Centre for 17 years. He supports lots of areas around the hospice, but most importantly, his infectious nature puts a smile on the faces of patients, staff, other volunteers and anyone he meets at the Hospice.

We asked him what he does at Primrose Hospice: I help in the kitchen, preparing the vegetables and washing up, shredding for the staff, and franking lots of post.’

What is your favourite part of visiting Primrose? ‘The people are so kind and friendly.’ A man stood with a certificate and a woman dressed as a minion.

How does volunteering make you feel? ‘HAPPY’

What’s one thing you wish more people knew about Primrose Hospice? ‘It is not as scary as a hospital and everyone is kind and makes you feel happy.’

At Primrose Hospice, we wouldn’t be able to offer the free support we do without them. From providing a listening ear to families, to sorting donations in our shops, to helping with events and fundraising. Every role matters, and every volunteer brings something unique and invaluable.

This week, we say a heartfelt thank you. Your kindness, commitment, and generosity inspire us every day. Whether you’ve been with us for 10 years or just joined, your contribution helps us continue providing vital care and support for patients and families in our community.
