Make a Jarful of Joy

Our Craft Group is just one of the many groups we run at Primrose Hospice & Family Support centre. They’ve recently been busy creating beautiful jars with an endless amount of uses!

Why not make your own by following our guide below!

What you’ll need:

  • An empty glass jar of any size
  • Warm soapy water
  • Paper towels
  • Alcohol rub
  • Cotton wool
  • Sanding block or fine sandpaper
  • Acrylic paint (white or a light colour)
  • Napkins with a pattern
  • PVA Glue
  • Modge podge
  • Optional additional decorations

Instructions:

  1. Clean your jar with warm soapy water and dry with a paper towel.
  2. Wipe your jar over with alcohol rub on a cotton wool ball.
  3. Prepare your jar by gently sanding around the outside and then wipe with a paper towel.
  4. Paint the outside of your jar with acrylic paint using downward strokes. Apply 2 coats of paint leaving them to dry in-between applications.
  5. Take your 3ply napkins and cut out the sections of pattern you would like to apply to your jar.
  6. Separate the layers until you’ve got 1 layer. Glue onto your jar with PVA glue. Feel free to get creative at this stage by building up the layers and patterns on your jar.
  7. Once you are happy with your design and your PVA glue is dry, cover your jar with a layer of Modge Podge to seal it.
  8. Feel free to add additional decorations of anything you like!
  9. And there you have it! You’ve recycled a jar into something beautiful to use time and time again!
