Caring with Compassion
This international nurses day we’d like to invite you to get to know staff nurse Alison and find out more about how our clinical team support our wonderful patients…
“I’ve had the pleasure of working at Primrose Hospice for over two years now and I can really say no two days are ever the same. I love seeing the difference we make to patients and families. I feel privileged to see first hand how our support brings comfort, dignity, and a better quality of life. We are continually reminded of our impact by the positive feedback we receive, which reminds us of the meaningful connections we build and the lasting support we provides. My day starts by being greeted by our lovely volunteers on reception who let me know if any patients have cancelled their visit or need phone advice from our team.
We then have a team hand over and we start to welcome patients into our Day Hospice, ensuring we have time to speak to each patient individually for a quick catch up and to see if any of them need to speak to one of the Clinical team privately.
Our Day Hospice session then starts which can be anything from discussions around pain management to a sing-along with Roger our regular ‘Elvis’impersonator.
After this we provide a healthy and nutritious lunch for all our patients. This is an important time for us as we can assess
how patients are managing with their dietary requirements and any help they may need here or at home.
The most rewarding part of my role is seeing the difference we make to patients and their families and the continuous positive feedback we receive.
People often have a misconception that Hospices are ‘sad’ places; we know at Primrose that isn’t the case. We are about ‘living with’ and not ‘dying of’ and my role is centred around education and support so our patients have the best quality of life for as long as possible.”
